“Empowerment of SME’s in Knowledge Based Econonmy”
SMEs represent more than 99% of the total enterprises in Europe and provide about 67% of total employment. They contribute to more than 50% of the GDP, where Micro enterprises (less than 10 employees) represent more than 90% of its total number. SMEs are an important driving factor for developed and underdeveloped economies. SMEs incorporate cross sector business activities, vulnerable to many internal & external factors that challenge their survival, operations and growth. Within the context of technology and knowledge based economies, almost all SMEs can revamp their performance and increase their survival rate. This conference will focus on enhancing SMEs’ performances by utilizing an environment of knowledge based economy. Both ICT and globalization have a great impact on quality, delivery and cost.
The conference will explore different empowerment processes for SMEs to increase their performance in the context of Knowledge based economy through the following parameters:
o Governmental policy/measures
o Financial Institutions
o Infrastructure
o Technology Transfer & Innovation
o Networking
Governmental positioning is essential to support SMEs’ performances through improving a Business environment in terms of legislations, policies, measures and support programs. Both Developmental and commercial banks have important roles in finding new schemes and programs to finance and/or develop SMEs’ performances in terms of exporting, expanding, buying technology and gaining resources. Developed Infrastructure, in terms of ports, power, roads, ICT, R&D centers, along with education and training institutes have an immense impact on the flow of businesses and knowledge transfer, to and from SMEs. Technology and knowledge transfers play an influential role in boosting competitiveness of products and services of SMEs along with Networking that links major stakeholders. This provides SMEs with necessary inputs andoutputs to maintain its operation and progress.
