Under the Patronage of Professor Riyad Hamzah General Secretary of the Higher Education Council
On October 12th and 13th 2015, the Applied Science Universityorganized a workshop on Research Leadership and Creating Capacity of Research under the patronage of Professor Riyad Hamzah, the General Secretary of the Higher Education Council and the keynote speaker at the workshop who gave an instructive presentation on the current status of research in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The workshop was held under the auspices of the Arab European Leadership Network in Higher Education (ARELEN) in association with
- Association of Arab Universities – Jordan
- Applied Science University – Kingdom of Bahrain
- Cardiff Metropolitan University – United Kingdom.
The workshop was attended by Professor Sultan Abu Orabi, Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities (AArU), Mr. Lloyd Powell, Head of Partnerships at Cardiff Metropolitan University, and Professor Waheeb Al Khaja, Chairman of ASU Board of Trustees, who welcomed participants from more than ten tertiary institutions in Bahrain along with members of the Higher Education Council.
Professor Ghassan Aouad, President of the Applied Science University and the workshop leader,together with Professor Hussein Zedan, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs & Development and Immediate Past Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, gave presentations on the art and science of doing research. Professor Aouad covered important topics related to the development of research strategies and creating capacity for research in order to encourage more collaboration between universities in Bahrain.
Throughout the two days of the workshop, the participants discussed how to create a strong research culture in universities in the Arab world and how to maximise Bahraini institutions and researches chances of producing strong research papers and research bids.
