The third Universities Debate is held at Applied Science University
Manama – Applied Science University:
Applied Science University hosted the third universities debate which was held by the General Organization for Youth and Sports on 12 and 13 of April 2014 in which nine universities in Bahrain participated in the competition which are Applied Science University, Bahrain University, Arabian Gulf University, Kingdom University, Ahlia University, Royal University for Women, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (Bahrain) and Bahrain Polytechnic.
Ahlia university clinched the first position in the Universities Debate contest, meanwhile Applied Science University was in the second place in the competition, and the Kingdom University was in third place.
The final competition in universities debate was held between Ahlia University and Applied Science University; Arbitration Committee put forth a topic for discussion which was “The Committee thinks that the brands has become something essential in our lives,” Applied Science University team supported this point of view meanwhile Ahlia University team disagreed with this point of view and every team explained, argued and provided evidences to support his point of view.
Ahlia University was more able in persuading the committee than Applied Science University, so Ahlia University won the competition. Furthermore, the performance of both teams was impressive in terms of strength of the argument and presentation.
For his part, the President of Applied Science University, Dr. Waheeb Al-Khaja welcomed all attendees from inside and outside the university, expressing his thanks and appreciation to the General Organization for Youth and Sports for this initiative; Al-Khaja also thanked all these who contributed to the success of this event.
Furthermore, Al-Khaja stressed that Applied Science University is keen to participate in such events that enrich the cultural aspect of the students, calling all these responsible for student activities in all universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain for paying attention and encouraging debates in addition to utilizing all possibilities and working to support such activities and events due to their importance in building the personality, knowledge and capabilities of students.
In turn, Dr. Nihad al-Jubouri the Dean of Student Affairs at Applied Science University congratulated the winning teams in the debate, pointing out that the Bahraini youth is inherently self-confident, loves fair competition and seeks for developing their abilities; al-Jubouri explained that universities debate enhances the personality of students and makes them able to deliver their point of view in various platforms confidently.
At the end of the competition, the head of the General Organization for youth and sports presented trophies, shields and souvenirs for winners, guests and university presidents who attended the closing ceremony competitions.
