Applied Science University celebrates the World Intellectual Property Day

Under the patronage of Dr. Waheeb Al-Khajah, the president of Applied Science University, the university held a workshop under the title of “Intellectual Property Protection in the Kingdom of Bahrain” to coincide with the celebrations of the International Day of the World Intellectual Property.
The workshop included three working papers; the first paper was presented by Mr. Nawaf Al-Majid from the Directorate of Industrial Property under the title of “intellectual property and the role of Directorate of Industrial Property in following-up and implementing the industrial property laws and regulations in the Kingdom of Bahrain.” This paper tackled the definition of industrial property in terms of the types, methods of registration and protecting each of these types in addition to the important role played by the administration of industrial property.
Dr. Abdul Karim Al-Alwan the head of the Private Law Department at the college of Law at Applied Science University presented a working paper entitled “copyright protection in Bahraini law,”; the paper defined the copyright, the conditions for acquiring the copyright and the types of copyright as moral right and the financial right as well as protecting the author in terms of scope, duration and types.
The third paper which was under the title of “trademark protection in Bahraini law,” tackled the definition, function and conditions of trademark, in addition to the system of ownership and legal protection; the paper was presented by Dr. Hisham Baban, the Assistant Professor of commercial law at the college of Law at Applied Science University.
The workshop aims at highlighting the issues of the intellectual property, the importance of the intellectual property system in the economic, cultural and social development and the continuous serious dialogue between all partners, stakeholders and interested persons in the intellectual property. Furthermore, the workshop aims to raise awareness of the role of intellectual property in our daily life and to celebrate the contribution of innovators and artists to the development of communities.
